Amazing kofta, the addition of dates to the traditional recipe was a nice touch. Tabouleh had a soft taste that so often is missing. Lemon posset was great, although the shortbread was a little floury. - Jessica,SE5

My wife - she who must obeyed (well, sometimes) - was not convinced by the idea of Housebites. But finally last night I caught her at a weak moment. Must have been something in the stars, the transit of Venus perhaps, or was it that she'd fallen over at skiing this afternoon? (Skiing, in June! But then she's South African, antipodeans can't help but do things upside down). Anyway, I didn't want to cook, the football was on, and she was feeling battered and bruised, and sorry for herself, and so I seized the moment and showed her Alice's menu. We booked. The food arrived on time, and it was very, very good. And the wife was pleased and toddled off up the wooden step to bedfordshire, feeling a lot happier - that could also have been the wine. But this morning the wine was long gone and the wife was still raving about how great the food was and that apparently I was right. I was right. I was right! A very happy ending. About the food: really great schnitzel, fresh tasty salads, interesting aubergine, gorgeous rice with duck, couscous with pomegranate, and a free pudding too. Which I had for breakfast in bed this morning, while I listened to the wife tell me how right I was. An even happier ending. - Laurence,SE24

Two words, absolutely delicious. The beef was so lovely and tender, the dumplings were nice & light, the whole dish just flavoursome and filling. As for the Lemon Posset, I did not want it to end!! Alice added some berries alongside the dessert which was a lovely gesture for which I would like to say thank you.
