Laurent Rossi

Hello, I'm Laurent! I am an award-winning French chef with over 20 years experience in fine dining and gourmet food.

I've worked as a personal chef in the Caribbean, U.S and UK, and at some of the best restaurants in the UK and France, including No 1 Lombard Street, L'Oranger in Mayfair, and L'Aventure in St Johns Wood.

I'm also a chocolatier and create my own, handmade, fine chocolates and truffles under the name Chocololo. You can order my chocolates through Housebites or in person at Portobello Fine Food Market every weekend. You can find out more on www.chocololo.com.

I have won several awards for the taste and presentation of my food at the Journee Gastronomique de Sologne, a two-day extravaganza, where professional chefs test their skills against one another.

My food and chocolates are inspired by Provence and Corsica, where I grew up, and I'd love to share these wonderful Mediteranean tastes with you.

The food was good - much better than I could cook without a lot of practice. The main reason I haven't selected very good, is that some of it was surprisingly small, mainly the roasted vegetables and we weren't entirely convinced it was all value for money (my review is based on the full price, we benefited from a £10 discount). However, I appreciate we may not be the target customers. We make a lot of our food buying decions based on price over quality, based on our income. - Amy, NW10

Both dishes were excellent. The main problem with Housebites is that the delivery distances are sometimes considerable and the food is not too hot by the time it arrives. Butt his can easily be corrected by heating up in the oven. - Mervyn, SW7

Positives: The meal arrived on time. The portions were extremely generous The sea bass was delicious, the fish fresh. This was my first order from Housebites, really liked the way you can choose a delivery slot for the next day- and the delivery was punctual. The food was very good. That said I would never say it was worth £14.50 for a small-medium sized lamb casserole and some rice, especially when you are eating at home rather than in a nice restuarant. The main meal was very good with a nice infusion of chocolate into the pesto for the gnochi and plenty of chicken in the risotto. However i was very disappointed with the desert which was quite pricey and turned out to not be what was ordered. I ordered a slab of chilli milk chocolate and had a small bag of some pieces of brownie delivered, not what id expect for the price or what id asked for! likewise for the salted caramel chocolates, good taste but for TEN POUNDS a very small bag with some undersized chocolates is definitely not the dessert course to a meal or good value - Sam, NW3

I genuinely wish I was leaving a different review, as we were excited and anticipating this meal. The fish fillet was small and thin, the vegetable ratatouille covering the rice barely seen. There was, however plenty of rice - almost all the takeaway container represented rice. The overall dish was lacking seasoning and any taste as a matter of fact. I am really sorry to be saying this. Unfortunately the delivery arrived 40mns late without any notification of the delay. After calling the first time I was told the delivery was about to arrive and yet 20 minutes later and there was still no delivery... Laurent always delivers for me--in both senses of the term. The sea-bass was amazing, considering the delicacy of cooked fish; it arrived with crispy skin and delicious, flaky flesh. The pork 'filet mignon' was moist and flavourful. He is a master chocolatier, so his brownie is among the best I've ever eaten. The rocket salad was well-dressed and not at all wilted, with a generous shaving of Parmesan. The sea bass (our first try, after a dozen orders) was exemplary, with crisp edible skin, the substantial duck breast perfectly tender and delicately sanced (never too sweet, like so many a l'oramge treatments, and still delicious as a left-over the next day). Overall we were happy and yes we would order from this chef again. The meal was delivered on time and as it was Valentines night I guess they were rather busy - the person delivering said they were - and apologised because one of the containers had leaked or was spilling so the delivery was rather messy - these things happen so no biggie. A couple of small gripes though - the food wasn't hot enough, it was decidedly warm or tepid, if we were in a restaurant we would have definitely sent it back and asked for it to be heated more. Also, one item from the order was missing - the wild mushroom risotto was supposed to be served with a parmesan galette, but this wasn't delivered. So there you have it we would be happy to receive similar food in a restaurant - but the delivery was a bit messy, the food could have been warmer and one small item was missing. - Justin, NW6

This was not quite as good as the first time we ordered, perhaps because Valentines night was very busy. The fish with veg was very nice. The ossobucco was rich and my husband felt the rice with it was too creamy/rich rather than offsetting it, and the gratin of veg was a bit burnt. Chocolate fondue sauce was delicious but not much fruit, so didn't feel the best value at twelve pounds. Nevertheless I am sure we will order again . - susan, NW6

Braised beef superb, rib-eye good and well-seasoned, but a bit chewy (what steaks can anyone procure at this modest price?), but rescued by perfect bordelaise. Both versions of potato excellent, winter vegetables equally so, especially chestnuts--and are those parsnips we spy in the picture? If so, please, please. Galette very, very good--no cloying oversweetness, plenty for four, not just two. We will be back to Chef Laurent, happily. The whole concept is exciting, and we'll spread the word. Went for the traditional Galette des Rois for dessert for a few of us. Absolutely fabulous meal - salad was perfectly dressed, pasta was hot and heavenly. And the sides were so big I have leftovers for lunch. The tarte aux citron was also divine. The food arrived on time but Laurent still apologised for being late which was very sweet. But the icing on the cake was a box of chocolates hand made by the chef - my favourite so far is the Salsa, a yummy blend of chilli and chocolate - wow..! It should be stated that the chicken is a poussin, rather than describing it as a baby chicken, as one gets the impression that it's a small chicken from the photo. The Mediteranean lamb stew very good with succulent tender lamb, full of flavour and we really enjoyed it. This would be a dish that I would order again. However the meat balls and spaghetti was bland with very little or no sauce at all and lacking in flavour and seasoning. The fillet de sea bass was was very disappointing as the bass was almost wafer thin and nothing like the picture advertised. Even though this meal was up to a bad start, HouseBite's customer service was superb and Laurent was extremely apologetic. All I have to say is WOW! I ordered a bit of everything as I wanted my husband and I to see if we would be taking advantage of Housebites again in the future. I was so impressed with the quality of the food. You'd think you'd lose some of the appeal/appearance of the dishes because it comes in takeaway boxes but this is not the case! It was delicious - the mains/sides/starters were hot, the portions were generous and soooo tasty. And what can I say about the mousse? It was, simply, the best chocolate mousse we've ever had. I really enjoyed everything about my experience with housebites! Ordering was easy (although Paypal can be kind of a pain), but I found a chef in my area and ordered in just a few minutes, which was great. The food from Laurent was amazingly good. I've never thought of myself as a fan of Chicken Provencale as a dish but after eating Laurent's I am a convert ! My side of de terre dauphinoise and Rasberry chocolate mousse were of a matching high standard and very generously sized.
