This was our first time ordering from Housebites and we were pleasantly surprised with our meal. It arrived within the time slot and was piping hot. Perfectly cooked chicken, potatoes and a really generously sized and interesting salad. We didn't love the salad dressing which seemed a little too oily. We would suggest some kind of sauce and/or fresh herbs to be served with the chicken as it perhaps needs some colour (and a little extra flavour) to the plate. We're about to eat our dessert (sticky toffee pudding) which looks fantastic! We would suggest some tweaking to the web to make it clearer/easier on how to order these as part of the meal (we added our request in the delivery comments section). But we will be ordering again! The meal I ordered was a huge dissapointment. The hog roast consisted of chunks of dry,grey, unflavoured pork and the accompying sides were simply boiled carrots, new potatoes and green beans. Having had many delicious meals from various housebites chefs I will not be ordering from Anthony again, the cooking showed a lack of basic skill and zero flavour. I happily awaited, with a certain degree of excitement, my first Housebites dinner. About ten minutes before the delivery window ended, I received a call from Anthony. He was phoning to apologise that I was still waiting for my order, and that his driver had just left, and would be with me in approximately ten minutes. His telephone manner was impeccable, and I have to say that I thought it was nice to have the opportunity to speak directly to the chef. This is a rarity wherever one is dining, especially during what I imagine would be peak service times. Anthony's estimated delivery time was spot on, and it made a refreshing change to see a delivery driver still looking in reasonably good condition after climbing all the stairs to my flat! Again, the driver's manners were good, and I find that this really does impact my enjoyment of a home-delivered meal, so it was off to a promising start. I gave him a small tip, as I had very little cash on me, but he seemed genuinely grateful, showing no signs of disappointment, and I didn't get the sense that he was expecting a tip either. I plated up, and I was pleased to find that everything was still hot - something that so many delivery services fail to... well... deliver. The steak was a stunning 8oz cut of Sirloin. It was beautifully cooked - just the right amount of pink in the middle, and incredibly succulent, with all the flavours perfectly sealed in. The pepper sauce was fantastic too, and the generous helping came in a separate, giving me the choice of how much to serve. Admittedly, having tasted it, I used it all, but it was nice to have the option to use it sparingly all the same. The chips and mushrooms were also delicious and cooked to perfection. The salad that came with it was also just right, served with an olive oil and balsamic dressing on the side. This is the first delivered meal I've seen to contain lambs lettuce in the salad, and it was a welcome addition, as were the cherry tomatoes, which were as good as any I've eaten all year. I am not a light eater, but the portion was generous enough that I didn't feel tempted to eat the extra salad I had ordered, meaning that I kept it in the fridge, and had it for lunch the next day. My first Housebites experience was a good one. It wasn't quite perfect, but the quality of the food alone was enough to make it the best I have ever had with a home-delivered meal... at least so far. Combined with the quick replies and courteous service, I am certain that my next lazy night's catering will be provided by Housebites. - Stewart, W1T

We ordered the food to arrive between 9.30pm and 10pm. The chef called at 9.55pm to say the food was on it's way and he apologies for the delay. However the food did not arrive until 10.30pm, by which time we were no longer hungry. The chips were soggy but the moules were nice. I'd have been impressed if I'd paid double in a restaurant, whereas instead I enjoyed a truly incredible dinner for less than the price of a greasy pizza. We began our meal with the buffalo wings, accompanied by a titillating home made coleslaw with a distinctly fruity flavor; most pleasing! The pan-fried duck was cooked to perfection, the sauce was subtly delightful and with just a soupcon of orange to tease the palette. Positively superior!Last but far from least, the oven roasted chicken provided a fantastic take on the conventional 'roast dinner genre', with a heart warming selection of humble but divine vegetables. Anthony's food was superb! When I read how much he was providing for a main course for a tenner, I could not work out how he was going to deliver it all. Lots of little pots all clearly labeled for each dish is how. And all delivered hot, by a very fit bicyclist. We had the chicken and the duck, both moist and succulent. The food was tasty- far better than the average takeaway. However, one of the main courses was missing. After emailing in, I got a call back from Anthony apologising and the missing dish arrived, an hour late. My boyfriend had the sirloin steak and I had the sweet potato and wild mushroom cottage pie which was delicious but not as expected: there seemed to be much more tomato, pepper and aubergine than mushroom and the mashed sweet potato topping didn't seem to have been crisped in the oven as I had expected. However, technical problems aside it was a nice meal and clearly a skilled chef. - Dani, NW1

Fantastic Sunday Roast! Invited family round for a housebites dinner and everyone was seriously impressed with the food. They could not believe it was a takeaway - not just because it was delivered well on time, but because of the quality. Beef was very good. Great selection of vegetables. The poached salmon was cooked very well. The pan fried salmon was overcooked. The ceviche was not tasty and actually quite bland; it was not as fresh as I would have liked. The potatoes were good, but the green vegetables weren't very fresh. The bread and butter pudding was well executed. Overall the quality of the ingredients was decent, and the execution was average. I admit I am quite critical when it comes to food, so I'm sure this meal would please most people who are accustomed to the typical crappy food you find locally. It wasn't actually delivered personally by the chef this time, but that doesn't matter; it was perfectly on time. My last meal from Anthony was so delicious that it would be difficult for this one to be as good. In fact, I'm being very picky. I felt that (and this is someone who likes salty food) my main course - probably the mash - was a bit oversalted. Otherwise, it was all excellent. My pudding (the pear bread-and-butter pudding) was really very good, and I was given a huge portion that will keep me going for a while! We really enjoyed our Valentine's feast, and loved the 3 ways salmon which was easily enough for two to share, especially with the salads ( which we weren't even expecting). I think Duck is quite a brave think to do on delivery and while tasty, especially with the plum sauce, think other dishes may transport better. Although Anthony was a bit late, the food was absolutely amazing! Anthony even delivered it himself - what a nice guy! A soft, golden and still hot omelette and thick but perfectly cooked American pancakes with the maple syrup in a separate pot.
